And you call me to rest...
I wake, open my eyes, listen for the Baby’s hungry cry...
and you call me to rest.
One child to school, three children to feed, laundry to do,
a Bible to read...and you call me to rest.
A checklist that’s long, prayers to be prayed, people to
call, things to be done...and you call me to rest.
Letters to write, photos to print, wait! Was that the baby?
Surely not yet! ...and you call me to rest.
Perfection is calling, the house is a mess, I’m not even
dressed...and you call me to rest.
The kids start to fight, they cry “I had it first!” The Baby
wakes up, new tears are shed...and you call me to rest.
The ironing sits, untouched yet again, the children are
starving, the oldest comes home...and you call me to rest.
The day almost done, my list not complete, I still feel the
call to “sit at Your feet.”
Yes, it is You, my Lord and my God, that gives me the
strength as the day is so long.
I find there is rest, found when I pursue, your words full
of hope – Lord, my life is in You.
Sleep may elude me, but true rest is found, when I am safe
in your arms, unhurried...unharmed.
I. rest. in.You.
Matthew 11:28-29 “…Come to me, all who labor and are heavy
laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for
I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you
will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is
light.”
Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in
everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be
made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard
your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
